The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is undergoing a major upgrade towards the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), which is set to deliver five times the nominal instantaneous luminosity of the LHC. This upgrade, scheduled for 2026-2028 during the Long Shutdown 3, includes the complete replacement of the on- and off-detector electronics of the ATLAS Tile Hadronic Calorimeter (TileCal) with a new read-out architecture. DAQ Activities of HGTD
/ Bimgdi, Yassine (Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (MA))
/ATLAS Collaboration
The ATLAS detector, a state-of-the-art particle detector, is uniquely situated 100 meters below the earth’s surface in the tunnel of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), extends 44 meters in length and 25 meters in height with an estimated mass of 7000 tons, and provides 4π coverage in solid angle due to its symmetric cylindrical design. By 2029, the luminosity is expected to increase significantly, creating a challenge due to the occurrence of pile-up - a phenomenon where multiple collisions occur simultaneously with the primary collision of interest.
