The obsolescence of information and information systems : CERN Digital Memory project / Le Meur, Jean-Yves (CERN) ; Tarocco, Nicola (CERN)
In 2016 was started the CERN Digital Memory project with the main goal of preventing loss of historical content produced by the organisation. The first step of the project was targeted to address the risk of deterioration of the most vulnerable materials, mostly the multimedia assets created in analogue formats from 1954 to the late 1990’s, like still and moving images kept on magnetic carriers. Capturing and Analyzing User Behavior in Large Digital Libraries / Gvianishvili, Giorgi (CERN) ; Le Meur, Jean-Yves (CERN) ; Šimko, Tibor (CERN) ; Caffaro, Jérôme (CERN) ; Marian, Ludmila (CERN) ; Kaplun, Samuele (CERN) ; Chan, Belinda (CERN) ; Rajman, Martin (EPFL)
The size of digital libraries is increasing, making navigation and access to information more challenging. Improving the system by observing the users’ activities can help at providing better services to users of very large digital libraries. [...]

Citation graph based ranking in Invenio / Marian, Ludmila (CERN) ; Le Meur, Jean-Yves (CERN) ; Rajman, Martin (EPFL, Lausanne) ; Vesely, Martin (EPFL, Lausanne)
Invenio is the web-based integrated digital library system developed at CERN. Within this framework, we present four types of ranking models based on the citation graph that complement the simple approach based on citation counts: time-dependent citation counts, a relevancy ranking which extends the PageRank model, a time-dependent ranking which combines the freshness of citations with PageRank and a ranking that takes into consideration the external citations [...]

INSPIRE: Realizing the dream of a global digital library in High-Energy Physics / Holtkamp, Annette (CERN) ; Mele, Salvatore (CERN) ; Simko, Tibor (CERN) ; Smith, Tim (CERN) /INSPIRE Collaboration
High-Energy Physics (HEP) has a long tradition in pioneering infrastructures for scholarly communication, and four leading laboratories are now rolling-out the next-generation digital library for the field: INSPIRE. This is an evolution of the extraordinarily successful, 40-years old SPIRES database. [...]

INSPIRE: a new scientific information system for HEP / Ivanov, R (CERN) ; Raae, L (CERN)
The status of high-energy physics (HEP) information systems has been jointly analyzed by the libraries of CERN, DESY, Fermilab and SLAC. As a result, the four laboratories have started the INSPIRE project – a new platform built by moving the successful SPIRES features and content, curated at DESY, Fermilab and SLAC, into the open-source CDS Invenio digital library software that was developed at CERN. Using Bibliographic Knowledge for Ranking in Scientific Publication Databases / Vesely, Martin ; Rajman, Martin ; Le Meur, Jean-Yves
Document ranking for scientific publications involves a variety of specialized resources (e.g. author or citation indexes) that are usually difficult to use within standard general purpose search engines that usually operate on large-scale heterogeneous document collections for which the required specialized resources are not always available for all the documents present in the collections. [...]

CERN Document Server Software: the integrated digital library / Pepe, Alberto ; Baron, Thomas ; Gracco, Maja ; Le Meur, Jean-Yves ; Robinson, Nicholas ; Simko, Tibor ; Vesely, Martin
CERN as the international European Organization for Nuclear Research has been involved since its early beginnings with the open dissemination of scientific results. The dissemination started by free paper distribution of preprints by CERN Library and continued electronically via FTP bulletin boards, the World Wide Web to the current OAI-compliant CERN Document Server.
