A fiber optic sensors monitoring system for the central beam pipe of the CMS experiment / Fienga, Francesco (CERN ; U. Naples (main) ; INFN, Naples) ; Szillasi, Zoltan (Debrecen, Inst. Nucl. Res.) ; Beni, Noemi (CERN) ; Irace, Andrea (Naples U.) ; Gaddi, Andrea (CERN) ; Zeuner, Wolfram (CERN) ; Ball, Austin (CERN) ; Buontempo, Salvatore (CERN ; INFN, Naples) ; Breglio, Giovanni (CERN ; U. Naples (main) ; INFN, Naples) In this paper we describe the main characteristics and experimental results, recorded in more than four years of data acquisition, of a temperature and strain monitoring system, called i-pipe, based on Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors arrays applied for the first time to a sector of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN): the central beam pipe (BP) of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS). The monitoring system, consisting of four arrays of 16 FBG sensors each, as better described in the text, is placed on four directives of the LHC section that passes inside the CMS experiment, namely the CMS central BP. Study of a large size double stack MRPC with strip readout / Baek, Y W (CERN ; Gangneung-Wonju Natl. U.) ; Kim, D W (Gangneung-Wonju Natl. U.) ; Williams, M C S (CERN ; Gangneung-Wonju Natl. U. ; INFN, Bologna) The Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPC) have been using in many experiments for the purpose of particle identification by the measurement of time-of-flight, thanks to its excellent timing performance. We present here a new design of a large size MRPC. [...] 2019 - 4 p. - Published in : Nucl. Instrum. Methods Phys. Res., A 928 (2019) 89-92

Low-complexity voltage and current sources for large-scale quench detection of high-temperature superconducting cables / Arpaia, P (CERN ; U. Naples (main)) ; Baccigalupi, C (CERN ; U. Naples (main)) ; Esposito, A (CERN ; Turin Polytechnic ; U. Naples (main)) In this work, the design of precision voltage and current sources for a new quench detection system for theprotection of superconducting power cables is proposed. The key strength of the design resides in its lowcomplexity, which allows to obtain a low-cost and reliable hardware implementation for the new detector. [...] 2019 - 8 p. - Published in : Nucl. ScienceBox Converging to Kubernetes containers in production for on-premise and hybrid clouds for CERNBox, SWAN, and EOS / Bocchi, Enrico (CERN) ; Canali, Luca (CERN) ; Castro, Diogo (CERN) ; Kothuri, Prasanth (CERN) ; Labrador, Hugo Gonzalez (CERN) ; Malawski, Maciej (AGH-UST, Cracow) ; Mościcki, Jakub T (CERN) ; Mrowczynski, Piotr (CERN) Docker containers are the de-facto standard to package, distribute, and run applications on cloud-based infrastructures. Commercial providers and private clouds expand their offer with container orchestration engines, making the management of resources and containerized applications tightly integrated. Measurement of $\mathcal{R}(D)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$ with a semileptonic tagging method / Caria, Giacomo (Melbourne U.) /Belle Collaboration We report a measurement of the ratios of branching fractions $\mathcal{R}(D^{(*)}) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^{(*)} \tau^- \bar{\nu}_{\tau})/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^{(*)} \ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell})$ where $\ell$ denotes an electron or a muon. The results are based on a data sample containing $772 \times 10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events recorded at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. Hadronic light-by-light contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment from lattice QCD / Blum, Thomas (Connecticut U. ; RIKEN BNL) ; Jin, Luchang (Connecticut U. ; RIKEN BNL) ; Christ, Norman (Columbia U.) ; Hayakawa, Masashi (Nagoya U. ; Nishina Ctr., RIKEN) ; Izubuchi, Taku (Brookhaven ; RIKEN BNL) ; Jin, Luchang (Connecticut U. ; RIKEN BNL) ; Jung, Chulwoo (Brookhaven) ; Lehner, Christoph (Brookhaven ; Regensburg U.) We report preliminary results for the hadronic light-by-light scattering contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. Several ensembles using 2+1 flavors of M\"obius domain-wall fermions, generated by the RBC/UKQCD collaborations, are employed to take the continuum and infinite volume limits of finite volume lattice QED+QCD [...] arXiv:1907.00864.- 2019 - 8 p. - Published in : (2019) , pp. 21-28 Fulltext: PDF; In : 54th Rencontres de Moriond on Electroweak Interactions and Unified Theories, La Thuile, Italy, 16 - 23 Mar 2019, pp.21-28

Testability of leptogenesis with three RH-neutrinos below the electroweak scale / Lucente, Michele (Louvain U., CP3) The Standard Model extended with right-handed neutrinos whose masses are below the electroweak scale provides a simultaneous solution for the origin of neutrino masses and of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe, that can be tested in current experiments. If three right-handed neutrinos participate to the processes, their parameter space of solutions extends to very large mixing angles, saturating the current experimental constraints. Study of Lepton Universality at Belle / Prim, Markus Tobias (KIT, Karlsruhe, ETP) /Belle Collaboration The Belle Collaboration presented three recent Belle analyses: The search for $B\rightarrow l\nu\gamma$ ($l = e, \mu$) with improved hadronic tagging, the search for $B\rightarrow \mu \nu_\mu$ with inclusive tagging and the test of lepton universality in $B\rightarrow K^*ll$ ($l = e, \mu$) decays.. arXiv:1906.06871.- 2019-06-17 - 6 p. - Published in : (2019) , pp. 297-296 Fulltext: PDF; In : 54th Rencontres de Moriond on Electroweak Interactions and Unified Theories, La Thuile, Italy, 16 - 23 Mar 2019, pp.297-296

Asymptotically safe extensions of the Standard Model with flavour phenomenology / Hiller, Gudrun (Dortmund U.) ; Hormigos-Feliu, Clara (Dortmund U.) ; Litim, Daniel F. (Sussex U.) ; Steudtner, Tom (Sussex U.) We investigate asymptotically safe extensions of the Standard Model with new matter fields arising in the TeV energy range. The new sector contains singlet scalars and vector-like fermions in representations which permit Yukawa interactions with the Standard Model leptons.
