CAS Proceedings of the 2019 course on High Gradient Wakefield Accelerators, Sesimbra, Portugal, 11–22 March 2019 (Draft version September 4, 2020)   11 - 22 Mar 2019  - Sesimbra, Portugal  / Schmickler, Hermann (CERN)
The CAS course on "High Gradient Wakefiled Accelerators" is part of the so called topical CAS courses, which are intended to give during two weeks a deep understanding of simulation and modelling tools used for the design, construction and operation of accelerators. Theoretical lectures covered the fundamentals of modern algorithms and techniques as well as a review of the mathematical background and were complemented with case-studies done by the students in small groups. [...]

Upgrade of the Arc Interconnection Verification System for the Large Hadron Collider / Bednarski, Mikolaj (Cracow, INP) ; Jurkiewicz, Piotr (Cracow, INP) ; Ludwin, Jaromir (Cracow, INP) ; Wojas, Damian (Cracow, INP) ; Bednarek, Mateusz (CERN) ; D'Angelo, Giorgio (CERN)
This article presents the design and construction of a new version of an automated, highly efficient system for validation of connections between superconducting magnets in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, Genève, Switzerland. The design of the new version is based on the existing comprehensive system for electrical measurements and is its integral part. The new system is dedicated to perform multi channel resistance measurements and is to be used during machine assembly and magnets replacement..

Fitting fixed-target and ion collisions in the LHCb Gauss simulation framework / Massacrier, Laure (Orsay, IPN) ; Popov, Dmitry (Birmingham U. ; Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Robbe, Patrick (Orsay, LAL) ; Winn, Michael (IRFU, Saclay, DPHN)
The LHCb experiment has been operating in various beam configurations in Run 1 and 2 of the LHC, with collisions of lead ion beams or in a fixed-target setup. In order to analyse these data, the Gauss simulation software has been extended to be able to generate events describing these configurations, based mainly on the EPOS event generator. [...]

IFJ PAN’s contribution to the HL-LHC: DQW crab cavity preparation and testing at CERN / Zwoźniak, A (Cracow, INP ; CERN) ; Bocian, D (Cracow, INP) ; Krawczyk, A (Cracow, INP ; CERN) ; Prochal, B (Cracow, INP ; CERN) ; Wartak, M (Cracow, INP ; CERN)
The Double Quarter Wave (DQW) Crab Cavity was designed to rotate the colliding bunches and in consequence to increase the luminosity of the LHC machine. Prior to launching series production detailed RF validation tests, both without and with beam, were performed at CERN. [...]

Design of the consolidated LHC dipole diode busbar insulation system / Meuter, F (CERN) ; Sahner, T (CERN) ; Scheuerlein, C (CERN) ; Tock, J Ph (CERN)
During the second long shutdown of the LHC in 2019 and 2020, the electrical insulation of the 1232 dipole diodes and diode busbars is presently consolidated. The newly designed insulation system, mainly consisting of polyimide laminated fiber reinforced epoxy sheets and injection molded pure resin inserts, can be installed in the very constricted space of the LHC tunnel, without removing the presently installed insulation. Impact of 440 GeV Proton beams on Superconductors in a Cryogenic Environment / Will, A (CERN ; KIT, Karlsruhe, IPE) ; Bernhard, A (KIT, Karlsruhe, IPE) ; Bonura, M (Geneva U.) ; Bordini, B (CERN) ; Mentink, M (CERN) ; Mueller, A S (KIT, Karlsruhe, IPE) ; Oslandsbotn, A (CERN) ; Schmidt, R (CERN) ; Schubert, J (CERN) ; Senatore, C (CERN ; Geneva U.) et al.
The superconducting magnets used in high energy particle accelerators such as CERN’s LHC can be impacted by the circulating beam in case of specific failures. This leads to interaction of the beam particles with the magnet components, like the superconducting coils, through direct beam impact or via secondary particle showers. [...]
