BASE—Testing Fundamental Symmetries by High Precision Comparisons of the Properties of Antiprotons and Protons
/
Ulmer, Stefan
(RIKEN (main))
This chapter reviews the experimental activities of the BASE collaboration at CERN [1], which operates advanced Penning trap systems to compare the fundamental properties of single protons and antiprotons with high precision [2,3,4]. Such measurements provide stringent tests of charge, parity, time (CPT) reversal invariance, which is the most fundamental symmetry in the standard model of particle physics [5].

Hunting Dark Matter Axions with CAST
/
Maroudas, Marios
(Patras U.) ;
Ozbozduman, Kaan
(VINCA Inst. Nucl. Sci., Belgrade ; Bogazici U.)
The CAST experiment at CERN has been looking for the hypothetical particles of Dark Matter called axions for about 22 years. After setting world-class limits on the axion-photon coupling strength for solar axions as a helioscope, it has been converted into a haloscope looking for Dark Matter axions.

Probing Stealth Dark Sectors with LHCb
/
Vázquez Sierra, Carlos
(CERN) ;
Zurita, José
(Valencia U., IFIC)
In this chapter we review the existing public searches for dark sectors performed by the LHCb collaboration. We start first by discussing the main differences between the LHCb detector and the previously described ATLAS and CMS, as these shape the search program.

Introduction to Dark Matter Searches at CERN
/
Kulkarni, Suchita
(Graz U.)
The nature of dark matter as of now is unknown. If dark matter is made of particles, what these particles are and how they communicate with the known particles i.e.

Searching for Dark Matter with the CMS Detector
/
Pinna, Deborah
(Wisconsin U., Madison)
Evidence of the existence of dark matter is provided by astrophysical observations at different scales. Although no direct information about dark matter properties or its non-gravitational interactions is yet available, potential interactions between dark matter and standard model particles are well motivated theoretically.

Searching for Dark Matter with the ATLAS Detector
/
Doglioni, Caterina
(Manchester U. ; Lund U. (main)) ;
Tovey, Dan
(Sheffield U.)
Dark matter’s presence can be inferred from gravitational interactions and astrophysical observations, but its nature is still unknown. If dark matter is a particle, then we hope to complement these observations from space and understand its nature and interactions by producing it in controlled laboratory conditions.

FASER: The Lifetime Frontier at the LHC and the Search for Dark Matter
/
Queitsch-Maitland, Michaela
(CERN)
The Forward Search Experiment (FASER) is the newest experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and is at the forefront of the lifetime frontier in the search for dark matter and other new phenomena. It is uniquely situated around 500 m from the LHC interaction point 1 (IP1) and will be able to detect the decays of new, low mass, weakly interacting particles which are thought to act as a mediator between the particles that make up ordinary matter and a new dark sector.

The AMS Experiment on the International Space Station
/
Graziani, Maura
(INFN, Perugia ; Perugia U.) ;
Tomassetti, Nicola
(INFN, Perugia ; Perugia U.)
The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) is a cosmic ray detector operating onboard the International Space Station since May 2011 conducting a unique, long-duration mission of fundamental physics research in space. The physics objectives include the precise studies of the origin of dark matter, antimatter, and cosmic rays as well as the exploration of new phenomena.

The Role of Quantum Mechanics in Modern Cosmology
/
Veneziano, Gabriele
(CERN ; College de France)
I will briefly review, in simple terms, the crucial role of quantum mechanics in modern inflationary cosmology. Quantum processes throughout the inflationary epoch determine the subsequent evolution of our Universe, including the formation of its large-scale structures (galaxies, clusters, voids, ...).

NA64—Search for Dark Sector Particles
/
Banerjee, Dipanwita
(CERN)
NA64 is a fixed target dark matter experiment at the CERN SPS searching for dark photons ($A'$) in the sub-GeV mass range at the secondary beamlines of the CERN North Area. It uses the electron beam from the H4 beamline and the muon beam from the M2 beamline with an aim to detect the dark photons from the interaction of the beam in an active target, an electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL).
