Realization of the optimal beam dilution pattern of the FCC-hh ring using beating frequencies
/ Barna, Dániel (Wigner RCP, Budapest ; Miskolc U.) ; Facskó, Benedek (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Renner, Elisabeth (CERN)
In order to avoid the damage of the dump target of the Future Circular Collider’s proton ring, the beam will be swept over its surface using dilution kickers oscillating in the x/y planes with 90 ∘ phase difference, and an amplitude changing with time, thereby creating a spiral-like pattern. The natural time-dependence of the amplitude is the exponential decay of a damped oscillating circuit, which results in a decreasing pitch, and thereby increasing energy deposition density towards small radii. Stability limits with Landau damping in the FCC-hh
/ Astapovych, D (Darmstadt, Tech. Hochsch.) ; Boine-Frankenheim, O (Darmstadt, Tech. Hochsch. ; Darmstadt, GSI) ; Gubaidulin, V (Darmstadt, Tech. Hochsch.) ; Kornilov, V (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Niedermayer, U (Darmstadt, Tech. Hochsch.) ; Schulte, D (CERN)
The resistive wall impedance is one of the expected main drivers of transverse beam instabilities in the proposed Future Circular Collider hadron-hadron option (FCC-hh). We obtain the resistive wall impedance for the FCC-hh beam screen from a two-dimensional finite element solver. [...]

ECLOUD’18 summary and outlook
/ Cimino, R (Frascati) ; Zimmermann, F (CERN)
This article reports some highlights from the joint INFN/ARIES workshop ECLOUD’18. We focus on electron-cloud eects in the LHC and at SuperKEKB, predictions for future machines like FCC-hh, HE-LHC and FCC-ee, models and parameters for the secondary-emission yield, recent trends in electron-cloud simulations, mitigation measures, and novel phenomena. Explainable Deep Learning for Fault Prognostics in Complex Systems: A Particle Accelerator Use-Case
/ Felsberger, Lukas (Ludwig Maximilians Universitat (DE)) ; Apollonio, Andrea (CERN) ; Cartier-Michaud, Thomas (CERN) ; Todd, Benjamin (CERN) ; Müller, Andreas (Hochschule Darmstadt) ; Kranzlmüller, Dieter (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Muenchen) ; Apollonio, Andrea (CERN)
Sophisticated infrastructures often exhibit misbehaviour and failures resulting from complex interactions of their constituent subsystems. Such infrastructures use alarms, event and fault information, which is recorded to help diagnose and repair failure conditions by operations experts. [...]

High frequency response of thick REBCO coated conductors in the framework of the FCC study
/ Romanov, Artur (CSIC, Catalunya) ; Krkotić, Patrick (CELLS - ALBA, LLS ; Barcelona, Polytechnic U.) ; Telles, Guilherme (CSIC, Catalunya) ; O'Callaghan, Joan (Barcelona, Polytechnic U.) ; Pont, Montse (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; Perez, Francis (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; Granados, Xavier (CSIC, Catalunya) ; Calatroni, Sergio (CERN) ; Puig, Teresa (CSIC, Catalunya) ; Gutierrez, Joffre (CSIC, Catalunya)
A thorough microwave response study of high temperature superconductors, considered as an alternative beam screen coating, has become integral in the design decisions for CERN’s future research infrastructure. Here, we present the surface resistance $R_{s}$ of various $\text {REBa}_{2}\text {Cu}_{3}\text {O}_{7-x}$ (RE = rare earth) coated conductors available in large scale as a function of magnetic field in a broad temperature range measured by a Hakki–Coleman type resonator with resonant frequency $\nu \approx {8}\,{\text {GHz}}$.
