Damage mechanisms in superconductors due to the impact of high energy proton beams and radiation tolerance of cryogenic diodes used in particle accelerator magnet systems / Will, Andreas
High energy hadron accelerators such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN and its planned upgrade to achieve higher luminosity, the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC), require superconducting magnets to provide strong magnetic fields, needed to steer and focus the particle beams at [...]

Flow pattern observations and flow pattern map for adiabatic two-phase flow of carbon dioxide in vertical upward and downward direction / Schmid, David (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Verlaat, Bart (CERN) ; Petagna, Paolo (CERN) ; Revellin, Rémi (INSA, Villeurbanne) ; Schiffmann, Jürg (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne)
A test facility to investigate flow pattern transitions of vertical two-phase flow of CO2 has been built within the scope of the high-luminosity detector upgrades at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Adiabatic flow pattern observations for both vertical up- and downflow are recorded with high-speed imaging in tubes of 8 mm inner diameter, with saturation temperatures in the range of −25◦C to +5◦C and mass velocities ranging from 100 kg m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ to 450 kg m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. A database of 431 flow pattern observations in upward and 123 in downward direction has been compiled. [...]

The challenges of beam polarization and keV-scale centre-of-mass energy calibration at the FCC-ee / Blondel, Alain (U. Geneva (main) ; Paris U., VI-VII) ; Gianfelice, Eliana (Fermilab)
The capability to determine the FCC-ee centre-of-mass energies (ECM) at the ppm level using resonant depolarization of the beams is essential for the Z line shape measurements, the W mass and the possible observation of the Higgs boson s-channel production. A first analysis (Blondel A et al Polarization and centre-of-mass energy calibration at FCC-ee. arXiv:1909.12245) demonstrated the feasibility of this programme, conditional to careful preparation and a number of further developments. Design and behaviour of the Large Hadron Collider external beam dumps capable of receiving 539 MJ/dump / Maestre, J. (CERN ; Granada U.) ; Torregrosa, C. (CERN ; Granada U.) ; Kershaw, K. (CERN) ; Bracco, C. (CERN) ; Coiffet, T. (CERN) ; Ferrari, M. (CERN) ; Ximenes, R. Franqueira (CERN) ; Gilardoni, S. (CERN) ; Grenier, D. (CERN) ; Lechner, A. (CERN) et al.
Two 6-t beam dumps, made of a graphite core encapsulated in a stainless steel vessel, are used to absorb the energy of the two Large Hadron Collider (LHC) intense proton beams during operation of the accelerator. Operational issues started to appear in 2015 during LHC Run 2 (2014-2018) as a consequence of the progressive increase of the LHC beam kinetic energy, necessitating technical interventions in the highly radioactive areas around the dumps. IR challenges and the machine detector interface at FCC-ee / Boscolo, Manuela (CERN ; Frascati) ; Burkhardt, Helmut (CERN) ; Oide, Katsunobu (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Sullivan, Michael K (SLAC)
The FCC-ee, with its unprecedented luminosity goal and high energy reach, creates challenges and requires solutions to many issues in order to produce a realistic design for the complex machine detector interface. The interaction region design for the FCC-ee adopts the crab-waist collision scheme and proposes an elegant local chromaticity correction system [...]

The Gamma Factory path to high-luminosity LHC with isoscalar beams / Krasny, M W (Paris U., VI-VII ; CERN) ; Petrenko, A (Novosibirsk, IYF ; CERN) ; Płaczek, W (Jagiellonian U. (main))
There are two main ways to increase LHC luminosity without upgrading CERN injectors: (1) modification of beam-collision optics and (2) reduction of beam transverse emittance. The former is followed in the ongoing high-luminosity upgrade of the LHC (HL-LHC), while the latter, applicable only to ion beams, is described in this contribution [...]
