Infinite Distance Limits and Factorization / Stout, John (speaker) (Harvard University)
Infinite distance limits in families of quantum theories are observed to enjoy a number of seemingly universal properties: they have "logarithmic" metric singularities, are always associated with weak-coupling limits, and---in quantum gravitational theories---are tied to the appearance of a tower of exponentially light fields. The goal of this talk is to explain why these features are universal. [...]

Measurement of $R(D^*)$ with hadronic $\tau^+$ decays at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV by the LHCb collaboration / Puthumanaillam, Resmi (speaker) (University of Oxford (GB))
The ratios of branching fractions $R(D^{(*)}) = {\cal B}(B^0 \to D^{(*)}\tau \nu_{\tau})/{\cal B}(B^0 \to D^{(*)} \ell \nu_{\ell})$, with $\ell = \mu, e$, allow to test lepton flavour universality in semi-leptonic $b$-decays and have been measured by BaBar, Belle and LHCb collaborations. The measurements have attracted significant attention as the difference between the experimental world-average values of $R(D^*)$ and $R(D)$ and their theoretical prediction is at the level of three standard deviations [...]

Neuromorphic Event-based Vision: Technology and Applications / Posch, Christoph (speaker) (Co-Founder and CTO at PROPHESEE)
Neuromorphic event-based vision is an emerging paradigm of acquisition and processing of visual information that takes inspiration from the functioning of the human vision system, attempting to recreate Nature's visual information acquisition and processing on VLSI silicon. In contrast to conventional image sensors, event vision sensors do not use a common sampling rate (=frame rate) for all pixels, but each individual pixel autonomously defines the timing of its own sampling points in response to its visual input by reacting to changes of incident light in continuous time. [...]

Qt and Modern C++ Asynchrony, and other things, too / Voutilainen, Ville (speaker) (The Qt Company)
Qt is one of the go-to libraries for graphics and much more in C++. Graphics means messaging, messaging means concurrency - which is one of the current "construction areas" for C++. [...]

The Black Hole Photon Ring / Lupsasca, Alex (speaker) (Vanderbilt)
What does a black hole look like? The first images of the supermassive black hole M87* display a bright ring encircling the event horizon, which appears as a dark patch in its surrounding emission. But Einstein's theory of general relativity predicts that within this image there also lies a thin "photon ring" consisting of multiple mirror images of the main emission. [...]

An introduction to Bayesian neural networks and uncertainty quantification in neural networks / Talpini, Jacopo (speaker) (Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca)
Over the past few years, many advances in the field of Deep Learning (DL) have been achieved and nowadays modern DL models are starting to be deployed in our everyday life. However, for many safety-critical applications, as long as scientific research fields, the quantification of the uncertainty of DL model predictions plays a crucial role. In this lecture, I will introduce the basics of Bayesian Neural Networks, how they can tackle the problem of estimating model uncertainty, and the most common techniques for generalizing this method to deep neural networks..

CPU Performance Profiling on Linux in the HEP Context / Kabadzhov, Ivan (speaker) (Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg)
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN has generated a vast amount of information from physics events, reaching peaks of TB of data per day. Many reports show that the current analysis models (and more generally, data processing interfaces) would not be able to efficiently accommodate the amount of data in the next few years. [...]
