First results from the Muon g-2 Experiment at Fermilab
/ Lehner, Christoph (speaker) (University of Regensburg & BNL) ; Venanzoni, Graziano (speaker) (INFN)
The ultimate precision in the measurement of the muon anomaly, $a_\mu$ = (g – 2)/2, has been constantly pursued since the sixties, when CERN played a leading role in its determination with a series of pioneering experiments that ran until the late seventies. The present most accurate $a_\mu$ measurement was carried out by the E821 Experiment at Brookhaven (USA), resulting in a 3.7 standard deviation discrepancy with the theoretical prediction of the Standard Model of particle physics [...]

Introduction to Quantum Computing
/ Gray, Heather (speaker) (Lawrence Berkeley National Lab)
Quantum computing is an exciting emergent field at the interface of the computer science, engineering, mathematics and physics. While the ideas behind quantum computing originated almost 30 years ago, the field has gone through a period of rapid development in recent years [...]

Beauty and charm production in pp collisions via D-meson measurements with ALICE
/ Catalano, Fabio (speaker) (Politecnico e INFN Torino (IT))
Measurements of the production of hadrons containing charm or beauty quarks in proton-proton collisions provide an important test of quantum chromodynamics calculations. They also set the reference for the respective measurements in heavy-ion collisions, where the formation and properties of the quark-gluon plasma are investigated.
The excellent particle identification, track and decay-vertex reconstruction capabilities of the ALICE experiment, together with machine-learning techniques for multi-class classification, are exploited to separate the signal of non-prompt D mesons (produced in beauty-hadron decays) from that of prompt D mesons (produced in the charm-quark fragmentation) and the combinatorial background [...]
