Abstract "What is the precise magnitude and the origin of direct CP violation?" is one of the open questions in the standard model. In Europe there are two collaborations who are preparing future experiments to measure direct CP violation in the kaon system with a precision of $\Re(\epsilon'/\epsilon)$ of about 10$^{-4}$ : the NA48 collaboration at the CERN Super Proton Synchroton (SPS) and the KLOE collaboration at the Frascati $\phi$-factory (DA$\Phi$NE). The status of both experiments is presented here.
