Machine configuration and parameters
/ Solfaroli Camillocci, M (CERN)
2017 has been a remarkable year for the LHC with more than 50 $fb^{-1}
$ delivered
to ATLAS and CMS and the peak luminosity largely overtaking the design value.
Moreover, quite some time was spent to increase operational knowledge with
technics that will be extremely important in the future, such that RF detuning,
levelling, ATS optics. 2018 will be also a very important year, as a challenging
target will be set to accumulate as much data as possible before the LS2, while
marking the road toward HL-LHC. [...]

Heavy Ions in 2018
/ Schaumann, M (CERN) ; Jowett, J M (CERN)
The last month of operation in 2018 will be devoted to lead-lead (Pb-Pb)
physics, while no protons will be available from the injectors. In the history
of the LHC this is only the 4th Pb-Pb run, but the initial 10 years LHC design
goal of 1 nb $^{-1}$ of Pb-Pb luminosity in ALICE, ATLAS and CMS is already in reach.
At this early stage, studies and discussions are still going on and it is not
yet possible to decide all details of the run configuration. [...]

Our Understanding of Transverse Instabilities and Mitigation Tools/Strategy
/ Buffat, X (CERN) ; Arduini, G (CERN) ; Amorim, D (CERN) ; Antipov, S (CERN) ; Barraud, L (CERN) ; Biancacci, N (CERN) ; Carver, L (CERN) ; Giordano, F (CERN) ; Iadarola, G (CERN) ; Li, K (CERN) et al.
The observations of coherent instabilities are compared to the expectations
based on the beam instability model. Their impact in the different phases of the
LHC operation and the corresponding mitigation strategies are discussed, with an
emphasis on the newly developed diagnostics.

LHC Operation: Experience and New Tools
/ Argyropoulos,T (CERN)
/LHC OP team Collaboration
This contribution presents a general overview of the LHC operation in 2017. It
outlines the experience gained during the year after all the machine
improvements (ATS optics, 30 cm $\beta$* and crossing angle leveling at IPs 1 and 5,
RF full-detuning, etc.) that were put in place since 2016 and how the machine
performance was affected. [...]

A CLIC Dual Beam Delivery System for Two Interaction Regions
/ Cilento, Vera (CERN ; IJCLab, Orsay) ; Faus-Golfe, Angeles (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Tomás García, Rogelio (CERN)
The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) could provide e⁺e⁻ collisions in two detectors simultaneously possibly at a repetition frequency twice the design value. In this paper, a novel dual Beam Delivery System (BDS) design is presented including optics designs and the evaluation of luminosity performance with synchrotron radiation (SR) and solenoid effects for both energy stages of CLIC, 380 GeV and 3 TeV. Feedback from the Experiments on the 2017 Run
/ Boyd, J (CERN) ; Schwick, C (CERN)
This talk will cover feedback from the experiments on the 2017 run, including
the high luminosity 13 TeV running, as well as the scheduled special runs that
took place. It will include feedback on the 8b4e BCS scheme that was developed
as a mitigation of the 16L2 issue observed during the 2017 run. [...]

New LHC optics correction approaches in 2017
/ Maclean, E H (CERN) ; Tomás, R (CERN) ; Carlier, F S (CERN) ; Camillocci, J (CERN) ; Coello De Portugal, E (CERN) ; Fol, K (CERN) ; Fuchsberger, A (CERN) ; Valdivieso, Garcia-Tabares (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, M (CERN) ; Hofer, M (CERN) et al.
The optics commissioning strategy for low-$\beta ^{*}$ operation of the LHC underwent
significant revision in 2017 [1]. The beam-based correction strategy
transitioned from being concerned exclusively with linear optics errors, to a
combined linear and nonlinear optics commissioning, with the traditional optics
corrections at flat-orbit being both preceded and followed by corrections for
the effect of nonlinear errors in the ATLAS and CMS insertions..

Design and Beam Dynamics Studies of a Novel Compact Recoil Separator Ring for Nuclear Research with Radioactive Beams
/ Resta-López, Javier (GACE-ICMUV) ; Foussat, Arnaud (CERN) ; Kirby, Glyn (CERN) ; Martel, Ismael (Huelva U.) ; Rodin, Volodymyr (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.)
The recent development of radioactive beam facilities has significantly expanded the capabilities for investigating the structure of the atomic nucleus and the nuclear interaction. For instance, the HIE-ISOLDE facility at CERN delivers presently the largest range of low-energy radioactive beam available worldwide. [...]
