Impact of betatron collimation losses in the High-Energy Large Hadron Collider / Varasteh, M (CERN) ; Bruce, R (CERN) ; Cerutti, F (CERN) ; Crouch, M (CERN) ; Zimmermann, F (CERN)
In response to recommendations in the 2013 update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics, a conceptual design effort for an energy upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, the so-called high-energy LHC (HE-LHC), was launched as part of the Future Circular Collider study. The HE-LHC machine, which is meant to use 16 T magnet technologies in the existing LHC tunnel, would provide proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 27 TeV (∼2×LHC) with a total stored energy of 1.34 GJ (∼4×LHC) per beam. On the mechanisms governing the critical current reduction in Nb$_{3}$Sn Rutherford cables under transverse stress / De Marzi, Gianluca (ENEA, Frascati ; CERN) ; Bordini, Bernardo (CERN) ; Baffari, Dario (CERN)
Within the framework of the HiLumi-LHC project, CERN is currently manufacturing 11 T dipole and quadrupole accelerator magnets using state-of-the-art Nb$_{3}$Sn Rutherford cables. Even higher magnetic fields are considered by the Hadron Future Circular Collider (FCC-hh) design study, which plans to develop 16 T Nb$_{3}$Sn bending dipoles. [...]

FCC-hh Conceptual Designs and Windability of the Main Quadrupoles / Genot, Clement (CERN) ; Lorin, Clement (CERN) ; Minier, Gilles (CERN) ; Pepinter, Edouard (CERN) ; Rabti, Yosri (CERN) ; Rochepault, Etienne (CERN) ; Salmi, Tiina (Tampere U. of Tech.) ; Schoerling, Daniel (CERN) ; Tommasini, Davide (Geneva U.)
In the framework of a design study for a post-LHC 100 TeV circular hadron collider, namely FCC-hh, high-gradient Nb$_3$Sn lattice quadrupoles were investigated, following closely the specifications from the optic layout of that machine. After several iterations, a baseline design of the main quadrupole was selected and, then, included in the FCC-hh Conceptual Design Report. [...]

Mechanical Tests, Analysis, and Validation of the Support Structure of the eRMC and RMM Magnets of the FCC R&D at CERN / Pérez, Manuel García (CERN) ; Izquierdo Bermudez, Susana (CERN) ; Perez, Juan Carlos (CERN) ; Bourcey, Nicolas (CERN) ; Grosclaude, Philippe (CERN) ; Guinchard, Michael (CERN) ; Tommasini, Davide (CERN) ; Naini, Sohrab Emami (CERN) ; Ferradas Troitiño, Salvador (CERN)
The enhanced racetrack model coil and racetrack model magnet constitute the current R&D; Nb$_3$Sn magnets under development at CERN aiming to achieve dipole fields of 16-18 T, the design baseline of the Future Circular Collider (FCC). This article reports the mechanical behavior of their common support structure, which underwent three different levels of room-temperature preload (with the bladders and key method) and two cooldown cycles to 80 K. Realization of the optimal beam dilution pattern of the FCC-hh ring using beating frequencies / Barna, Dániel (Wigner RCP, Budapest ; Miskolc U.) ; Facskó, Benedek (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Renner, Elisabeth (CERN)
In order to avoid the damage of the dump target of the Future Circular Collider’s proton ring, the beam will be swept over its surface using dilution kickers oscillating in the x/y planes with 90 ∘ phase difference, and an amplitude changing with time, thereby creating a spiral-like pattern. The natural time-dependence of the amplitude is the exponential decay of a damped oscillating circuit, which results in a decreasing pitch, and thereby increasing energy deposition density towards small radii. The resistive wall impedance is one of the expected main drivers of transverse beam instabilities in the proposed Future Circular Collider hadron-hadron option (FCC-hh). We obtain the resistive wall impedance for the FCC-hh beam screen from a two-dimensional finite element solver. [...]
