Study on discharge and short circuit generation in CMS GE1/1 triple-GEM detectors during Run 3
/ CMS GEM Group of the Collaboration
The installation of the new GE1/1 station of Gas ElectronMultiplier (GEM) detectors in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS)experiment was completed during the Long Shutdown 2 (LS2) phase ofthe Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The GE1/1 station has beenoperational in the CMS detector since the beginning of the Run-3data-taking phase, and for the first time the GEM technology wasdeployed on a large scale, comprised of 144 chambers and tested inrunning conditions as integral part of the CMS data acquisition, reconstruction, and analysis chain. This work studies the suitability of a set of different materials for manufacturing of more efficient and durable Radio-Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) structures compared to that currently used in many linear particle accelerators, traditionally made out of copper. RFQs are susceptible to vacuum breakdowns caused by the exposure to high electric fields, resulting in surface degradation. [...]

The impact of thermal–hydraulic variation on tunnel long-term performance: a tale of two tunnels
/ Wang, Chao (University Coll., Cork ; University Coll., Dublin) ; Xiao, Zhipeng (University Coll., Cork ; CERN) ; Di Murro, Vanessa (CERN) ; Osborne, John (CERN) ; Friedman, Miles (CERN) ; Li, Zili (University Coll., Cork ; University Coll., Dublin)
Long-term structural performance of ageing tunnels is influenced by various natural and anthropogenic factors. This study examines the impacts of two rarely investigated climatic factors: rainfall and temperature [...]

Optimizing doping thresholds for enhanced scintillation in 2D hybrid organic–inorganic perovskites
/ Maddalena, Francesco (Nanyang Polytechnic) ; Makowski, Michal ; Xiao, Chengyuan (Nanyang Polytechnic) ; Sheikh, Md Abdul Kuddus ; Kowal, Dominik ; Witkowski, Marcin E (Torun, Copernicus Astron. Ctr.) ; Drozdowski, Konrad J (Torun, Copernicus Astron. Ctr.) ; Mahato, Somnath ; Dujardin, Christophe (Lyon U. ; IUF, Paris) ; Calà, Roberto (CERN ; Milan Bicocca U.) et al.
Two-dimensional hybrid organic–inorganic perovskite (2D-HOIP) crystals, in particular lead-bromide perovskites, exhibit great promise as scintillators due to their superior environmental stability compared to their 3D counterparts, offering high light yields and rapid decay times. These cost-effective, solution-processable materials demonstrate potential for efficient wide-energy radiation detection. [...]

Influence of modelling approach for reinforced concrete underground structures, with application to the CMS cavern at CERN
/ Mubarak, A G (CERN ; U. Dundee) ; Knappett, J A (U. Dundee) ; Brown, M J (U. Dundee)
Representative modelling of reinforced concrete (RC) components in underground structures is essential for
accurate assessment of structural performance (deformations and internal forces) within numerical simulations.
This paper examines the implications of selecting different structural modelling approaches within the seismic
(dynamic) finite element analysis of a buried structure of complex shape, using the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) Detector Cavern of the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland, as a case study. Two alternate
modelling approaches were employed to model the cavern lining: (i) a composite continuum approach, with the
concrete and embedded reinforcement being explicitly modelled; and (ii) the use of a nonlinear elasto-plastic
plate element. [...]

Effect of radiation on lubrication performance and the consequences for mechanical equipment at CERN
/ Senajova, Dominika (CERN ; Imperial Coll., London) ; Dini, Daniele (Imperial Coll., London) ; Kershaw, Keith (CERN) ; Giles, Tim (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Cann, Philippa (Imperial Coll., London)
Successful operation of the accelerator complex at CERN relies on Beam Intercepting Devices (BIDs) which are exposed to high doses of radiation and severely restricted maintenance access over their operating life. Instances of lubrication problems have been observed, such as high friction, overheating, corrosion and, in extreme cases, seizure. [...]

Purpose
This article summarizes the short lecture on gantries given at the “Hadrontherapy: status and perspectives. Development of a hadrontherapy facility: learning from the existing” event.
Methods and materials
An introduction to gantries is given describing what a gantry is and which are the main difficulties and choices for an ion gantry. [...]

Charmed meson pair production in high-energy pp collisions within the QCD color dipole approach
/ Sampaio dos Santos, Glauber (Rio Grande do Sul U.) ; da Silveira, Gustavo Gil (Rio Grande do Sul U. ; CERN ; Rio de Janeiro State U.) ; Machado, Magno Valério Trindade (Rio Grande do Sul U.)
A study of double-charmed meson production in high-energy proton–proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider is presented. Considering the color dipole formalism developed in the transverse momentum representation along with the double parton scattering mechanism, predictions are made for the transverse momentum differential cross section for different pairs of DD-mesons.
